Cost of Living
I would like to know why 1 bedroom pads have to go for half the income I make in a month? For some or even some counties, it would be all of the income they make in a month. It forces people to live in areas where they don't want too or in dumps that are death traps from poor electrical wiring or shitty windows or zero insulation or warped flooring or simply put "not fit for residency". I refuse to move into any of these places because the landlord is a "slumlord" and doesn't want to work for a living. The 1 bedroom places needs to be around $500 if the tenant has to pay all the utilities. If a single person will be paying ALL of the bills, then these $800-$1,000 1 bedroom pads need to be lowered in price. We're already paying more income taxes then those with kids or have a married mate! Why do we have to pay more to have a roof over our heads that isn't going to fall down around us? If you're going to build housing in the multi unit capacity, then you need to keep in mind that not everyone is making $20/hour and those who are making $20/hr are owning their own home and living how they like. There are some of who live a clean life and aren't looking for section 8 help or can pay $800+ a month on a safe, clean place to live. There are some who are smart enough not to give over all their personal information to some person who answers the phones for 2 years until the government comes by to audit them to make sure they have all the required information from each tenant to prove they qualify for the cheaper rent. What info is required you ask! All bank account numbers and balances, driver license numbers, and any credit card numbers and balances and so much more. These rental places require more information for a cheap place to live then the food stamp office does. Those people are crazy. I'll give you my information and on the way out the door, I'll close all my accounts, declare my DL lost and as well my cc. Back to the main issue, lower the cost of living for the single people so we can live someplace safe and clean. This isn't about offering more low income housing, this is about those who work hard and want a safe clean place to live and not depending on food stamps because the rent is taking over 60% on the monthly income from someone.
