Padded Resumes, by mistake

Okay, I learned a very expensive mistake this morning on the information on my resume. Even though I was doing everything right, I was listing a "corp" name of the company I worked for. WRONG! When the company was being contacted, it was showing that I was not a former employee. It took me 15 months to get a straight answer to why I've been unable to get a job. My resume was looking padded by mistake, which sucks... In all the resume advice, I have never heard or seen anything about making sure you list the correct company, especially when a DBA is used.

I won't use my 'corp' title company, but I will use one as big as example. Lets say you worked for McDonald's in Somewhere City, USA for 3 years and listed your duties. When McDonlad's is contacted, it will show that you didn't worked for them. Many or most of the McDonald's are run under DBA (Doing Business As) companies. The lesson here is to NOT list McDonald's as the former employer, list the DBA Title with McDonald's as the reference on the resume.

When I think about the jobs I was unable to get because of this error, it makes me want to cry. DON'T make this same mistake!
